Nishikigoi:
(Japanese ornamental carp)
Keeping koi is both a privilege and a demanding activity.  Koi are specially bred Japanese carp.  They typically grow  over 60 cms (24 inches) in length and live for many years.  The best examples have a lustrous skin and powerful frame.  Beautiful patterns are greatly sought after.   My ponds at home hold about thirty mature fish.  I travel frequently to Japan to select koi, where I leave them with the breeders for further growth before shipment to Jersey.
